SIG Sauer P220 ST
The all new SIG Sauer model P220 ST "All Stainless Steel" is made in Exeter New Hampshire, by SIGARMS Inc. Introduced in January of 2001 at the 2001 SHOT Show, the P220 ST, like all .45 ACP SIG's, is based on the SIG Sauer model P220, introduced in 1975. The P220 is still in production and widely used by sportsmen, personal defense and concealed weapons license holders as well as several military organizations and Law Enforcement Agencies all over the world. The P220 ST features an all stainless steel frame and a new milled stainless steel slide for improved heft and balance. The polished stainless steel is extremely corrosion resistant and the added weight helps to control the recoil of the .45 ACP cartridge. The ST is about 12 ounces heavier than the standard P220 and includes a new integrated mil spec 1913 "Picatinny" Weaver style mounting rail system, that is milled into the frame. The mounting rail accepts most common tactical lights and laser aiming devices. The P220 ST is compatible with stock P220 seven (7) and eight (8) round magazines. But the ST uses the heavy - sport base plates on its issued mags. The SIG P220 was the only SIG-Sauer chambered in caliber .45 ACP for 25 years until 1999 when the new SIG P-245 was released. With the addition of the P220 Sport in 2000 and the new P220 ST in 2001, SIG Sauer now has a full line of four different .45 ACP pistols, all based on the venerable P220. The P220 has rightfully earned a reputation for accuracy, dependability and reliability "right out of the box" and this new P220 ST is built upon that enviable record of outstanding performance. This Heavy-Duty, Full Frame, Full Firepower sidearm will set the standard against which all others are measured. An upgrade of the revolutionary SIG-Sauer Model P220 with its 4-Point Safety System which allows the hammer to be safely lowered with a round in the chamber and eliminates the need for an external safety. This new model adds weight and corrosion resistance to an already well developed, high performance pistol. The ST integrates all of the upgrades and improvements SIGARMS has made to the P220 over the last 25 years and includes the changeable magazine release which can be moved to the right side of the frame to suit the shooters preference. It can be ordered in DAO and with optional SIGSIGHTS, formerly knows as SIGLights or contrasting Von Stavenhagen, bar-dot sights made famous by SIG Sauer. The P220 ST comes with High Contrast Bar Dot low profile combat sights, Combat 3 Dot Sights or with the optional SIGSIGHTS, the SIGARMS "Tritium" Night Sights, It is shipped with Black Rubberized Hogue Combat Grips and the "Polished Stainless Steel" finish. SIGARMS categorizes this handgun as "Full Sized" and even though it is considerably more heavy than a stock P220, it is one of the best shooting and best handling "big bore" pistols ever made. Look for the new P220 ST in early 2001 with an suggested retail price of $879. Gunnery Network expects the "street price" to be about 90 dollars more than the stock P220.
