L.A. Convention Set to Gore Americans' Civil Rights, Says National Gun Rights Dean

WASHINGTON, August 16 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following was
released today by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and
Bear Arms:

"The Democratic National Convention meeting now in Los Angeles is
out to Gore away the individual Second Amendment civil right of
law-abiding American citizens to keep and bear arms," John Michael
Snyder, named "Dean" of gun lobbyists by the national media, said
here this morning.

"In nominating the Gore-Lieberman ticket, the convention delegates
are taking their party further down the road towards denial of the
right to self-defense, of the very right to life itself," continued
Snyder, Public Affairs Director of the Citizens Committee for the
Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

"Just last year," he added, "Vice President Al Gore, who as a
Tennessee Senator had voted for the Firearm Owners Protection Act,
did a political back flip as he cast the tie-breaking vote in favor
of the infamous Lautenberg Amendment to a Juvenile Justice Bill.

"Had the proposal been enacted, the amendment, purportedly
designed to close a so-called gun show 'loophole,' would have done a
lot more. It would have established registration of law-abiding gun
owners and collectors, created a new tax on gun sales by allowing the
government to charge any fee it liked for the completion of a
background check, and allowed the government to retain personal
information about law-abiding gun buyers cleared by the background
check.

"Flipper Gore's new political sidekick, Sen. Joe Lieberman, voted
for the same proposal.

"Now the two want to go even further, and require handgun owner
photo identification licensing, as advocated in their party
platform."

Snyder said that, "unfortunately for the many good Democrats who
support traditional American civil liberties, their party is
dominated by the gun grabbers within their midst.

"Today, in fact, Handgun Control, Inc., now under the presidency
of a washed-up, has-been former Maryland congressman, Michael Barnes,
is holding an anti-gun issues forum in Los Angeles during the
convention. Barnes and other gun-grabbing groupies such as HUD
Secretary Andrew Cuomo obviously think they can win Americans'
support by taking away their freedom. We'll see about that!"
