SIG Assault Rifles Now Available for U.S. Law Enforcement |
SIGArms of Exeter New Hampshire has announced the return availability of the outstanding SIG SG 551 & SG 552 family of Assault Rifles. These modern high performance rifles have been unavailable for several years, since the so-called "Assault Weapons Ban". SIG has now reintroduced these venerable rifles, for law enforcement and military use, with some new and updated features. All SG 551 and 552 assault and sniper rifles are based on the SIG SG 550 family of rifles. The same rifles in semi automatic variants are also know as the SIG PE90 in Switzerland. The SIG SG 550 family has been in use for several years with the Swiss Army. It is also used by dozens of countries, agencies and special operations forces. The SG 550 series are know for their quality, dependability and accuracy and also have simple and ergonomic operating controls and well designed features that make training, employment and transition very simple. Swiss Army Certification To receive the Swiss Army "Field Grade Certification" is no small feat. The Swiss military have to function in one of the most rugged environments on earth and the equipment "certified" by the Swiss Army is know for its endurance and dependability, in even very harsh conditions. SIG's SG 550 Sturmgewehr was put through one of the most rigorous "torture tests" ever conceived. The so-called "fire & ice" tests included freezing the rifles into a solid block of ice, leaving them outside on a frigid, snow covered mountain in the Swiss Alps, followed by loading and firing several thousand rounds of ammunition. Then came the ovens and chemical applications for the hot tortures. This was followed by dust, sand and mud baths, where the rifles were completely submerged into a muddy goop and then put into operation. |
Extensive "troop trials" with live ammunition and sustained "barrel erosion" firing tests were included during development of the rifle and ammunition. All these trials and tests served to establish the overriding quality of the SIG assault rifles SG 550/551. They also earned the weapon system the simple, yet meaningful qualification issued by the Swiss Army of "field-grade". |

Agency Orders Only In the United States, these new SIG "Assault Rifles" are for Military and Law Enforcement use only. With SIG Military & Law Enforcement Sales currently accepting "Agency Orders Only". "Letterhead Sales" will not be authorized for individual officers until the logistics system and importation process is well established and SIG has plenty of guns out of the bonded warehouses and in stock. Law Enforcement Agencies are asked to contact Bill Vanderpool, SIGArms Director of Military & Law Enforcement Sales, at telephone 1-703-978-0896. Unlike the SIG HQ & Sales Team in Exeter, New Hampshire, Bill's office is in Burke, Virginia, close to the hot bed of power and all things Federal. |
The Guns Engineered like a fine Swiss watch, but as tuff as a Swiss-made Pinzgauer. Years of rugged field use with continued development and subtle modifications make the SG 550 family even better today than the originals. New variants and features abound and SIG has certainly made improvements on what was already an excellent rifle. The new variants include options for several barrel lengths, from the 10 inch "Commando" to the 26 inch "Sniper System". SIG has also incorporated the new and improved, all stainless steel op rod and updated gas system. This is an upgrade that further dampens perceived recoil and increases the already spectacular MTBF rating or "Mean Time Between Failures". The SG "Select Fire" guns are now available with 3 shot burst and automatic. New Optics and Rail Accessory System In lieu of the rear drum sight, the new SIG rifles have an integrated mil spec 1913 Picatinny rail with integral "flip up" front and rear sights. The RAS allows quick attachment of Reflex and other optics as well as lasers, target designators, and tactical lights. A new drum type rear sight will be available soon and the SIG rail being mil spec, is compatible with standard A.R.M.S. and Trijicon mounting hardware, as well as various optics and NVD's. |

Rugged Beauty Like the Swiss Alps, where these weapons originate, they are both rugged and beautiful. The SG 550/551 series are also extremely durable and very dependable. Designed to limit the ingress of mud, dust, dirt or sand they continue to function even under the worst conditions. In the case of climactic extremes or hostile environment, the shooter can manually close the bolt, to prevent further fouling. The gas adjustable valve has two settings that help to ensure reliable cycling, even under extreme conditions, or with poor ammunition. But with all that ruggedness and reliability also comes a well balanced and aesthetically pleasing weapon and one of the "sweetest" shooting assault rifles ever made. SIG's excellent trigger design allows good controlled fires, and allows the shooter to do singles and count rounds even in full auto. An effective muzzle break and flash suppresser, as well as the exceptional operating rod system, keep your rounds right on target, even during sustained or suppressive fire.
If your department has a need for a dependable, accurate, easy to maintain, well made, precision engineered 5.56 rifle system, that is also reasonably priced. Then you own it to the tax payers of your community and to your fellow officers to give the SIG SG 551/552 serious consideration. You will find a weapons system that has "Engineered Reliability" for all the hard times "When it Counts".
