Positions Filled by Special
Forces Warrant Officers
Company Operations
Warrant Officer.
Serves as the Operations and
Intelligence Officer for an 82-man Special Forces Company. Also
serves as the Company Executive Officer in the absence of a
Captain. Responsible for technical assistance to the Executive
Officer and the Company Commander for all matters pertaining to
War Plans, Contingency Plans, Unilateral and Joint Exercise
Planning for the Company. Provides technical expertise in
administrative, logistics, intelligence, planning, and long
range training for the Company. Provides oversight on the
Mission Area Analysis Program for the SFOD-A to ensure mission
readiness. Provides technical assistance in planning and
implementing all Company Plans and Training Concepts. Is the
focal point for all Warrant Officer professional development
within the Company.
Battalion
Operations Warrant Officer
A CW4 position, the
Battalion Operations Warrant Officer is one of the most
experienced Warrant officer in the Battalion. Primarily
responsible the management and development of all the
Battalion's Long Range planning. He will assist the Company and
Detachment Warrant Officers in the development of all their long
range training. He also provides advice to the Commander and
Operations Officer (S-3) on all phases of war planning, mission
planning, and joint Special Operations. Is the focal point for
all Warrant Officer professional development within the
Battalion.
Group Operations
Warrant Officer.
Like the Battalion
Operation Warrant Officer, the Group Operations Warrant
Officer, a CW5, is one of the most experienced Warrant Officers
in the Group. Primarily responsible the management and
development of all the Group's Long Range planning. He also
provides advice to the Commander and S-3 on all phases of war,
mission planning, and joint Special Operations. Is the focal
point for all Warrant Officer professional development within
the Group.
Group
Intelligence Warrant Officer
Works in the Group
Intelligence Shop. The Group Intelligence Warrant Officer, a
CW5, is the most experience Special Forces soldier working in
his Group's region on the world. As such, he is one of the
primary sources of information in the Group for their region. He
works closely with the Group S-2 Officers and the Military
Intelligence Detachment.
Positions at
MACOM
Chief Warrant Officer Threes
and Fours can expect to serve on staff positions at the
different army Major Area Commands (MACOM) for three to four
years before returning back to their Group. On these staffs they
serve in various supporting staff roles on the S-3 and S-2
primary staffs.
Positions at
USASFC/USASOC
Chief Warrant Officer Threes
and Fours can expect to serve on staff positions at the U.S.
Army Special Forces Command or the U.S.
Army Special Operations Command sometime during their
career. They serve in various supporting staff roles on the
operations (S-3) and intelligence (S-2) primary staffs.
Instructor/Writer.
Assists the organization in
determining what needs to be accomplished through managing,
planning, coordinating, and conducting front-end analysis of
training requirements. Analyzes performance deficiencies and
validates what training and training aids must be developed or
obtained to accomplish their missions. Designs, develops, and
writes programs needed to carry out training of military and
civilian instructors, training developers and managers, and
motivation-incentive programs for both military and civilians. Performs
as the doctrine training literature developer and review officer
for the command. Develops capstone doctrine, principles,
tactics, techniques, and procedures for critical special
operations mission activities, and integrates such into Army and
joint doctrinal and training literature. Institutes latest major
command guidance, doctrine, and philosophy and methodology in
coordination with other directorates. Supervises and instructs
training development courses.
Special Forces
Captain Slots
Due to the continual shortage
of qualified Special Forces Captains,
it is not unusual for a Warrant Officer to fill, and be rated
in, positions normally filled by a Captain. After being promoted
to CW2 Warrant Officers are commissioned and can command.
Special Forces Warrant Officers have served with distinction as
Detachment Commanders, Company Executive Officers, and other
Captain positions in both peace and war though out the Special
Forces Community.
